A native of Amarillo, Texas, Dan R Casso (b. 1997) has established himself as a reliable and innovative performer, educator, and arranger. He has regularly performed as guest principal trumpet of the Boston Civic Symphony, Boston Chamber Symphony, Boston Opera Collaborative, Apollo Ensemble of Boston, and New Philharmonia Orchestra. He recently organized and coached the Boston University Trumpet Ensemble to the 2024 National Trumpet Competition Large Ensemble semifinals in Kingsville, Texas, where the ensemble performed his arrangement Nobilmente: Scenes from Symphony No. 1 in A♭ Major by Edward Elgar. His other trumpet ensemble arrangements have been featured at the International Trumpet Guild and Texas Music Educators Association conferences, receiving much acclaim. Additionally, Dan received the Boston University College of Fine Arts Winds, Brass, and Percussion Departmental Award, was selected as a winner of the 2019 Miami University Concerto Competition, and earned induction into the Delta Iota chapter of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society.
Dan is completing his doctoral dissertation: An Exploration and Expansion of Solo and Chamber Literature Written for Flugelhorn. He is expected to earn his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance from Boston University in 2025. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stephen F. Austin State University with his Bachelor’s in Music Education and earned his Master’s in Trumpet Performance from Miami University (OH). His principal teachers are Terry Everson, Bruce Hall, Douglas Lindsay, Stephen Campbell, Gary Wurtz, and Russ Teweleit. Outside of music, Dan enjoys spending time with his friends and supporting the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, San Antonio Spurs, and Vegas Golden Knights.
